about

On February 1st (Dead End Hip Hop’s one year anniversary), it will be available on bandcamp. As I stated in my last Chattin with Chican, this is a project revolving around the “culture” of hip hop. I actually have a quote that is the essence of the project…

“FIRST, YOU LEARN A CULTURE. SECOND, YOU UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE. THEN, YOU CAN CONVERT IT.”

Don’t worry…I’ll explain the quote. The problem with so many rappers, is that they are good rappers-but don’t understand the rap/hip hop culture. Not just learning the history, but the different aspects of rap/hip hop. Secondly, they have to understand it. You may not like some things/aspects about hip hop, but you need to understand them! Many hip hop beefs and debates are started from lack of understanding of the culture. Only then, can you convert the culture. “Convert” means “to change“. The best artists (and sadly, some greedy record labels) ”changed” the game, because they learned and understood it.

Therefore, this isn’t going to be a “life changing” project, but a “culture changing” project. I take the topics that matter to the hip hop culture and challenge people to react to them. This is going to be a mix of Wale’s “a mixtape about nothing” and Phanatik’s “party over here” cds.

You will have an option to pay what ever you want for the project. If you pay a dollar…thanks. If you pay ten dollars…thanks. I just ask that you give according to how you feel the project did it’s job. Remember-this is just the “prequel“, so there will be more coming from this series. Thanks again to Dead End Hip Hop for educating everyone on the hip hop culture. Spread The Soup!
